These have all really happened to me in my last 6 years of business.

1. When you ask about how amazing my sex life must be. I may tell you it’s totally fabulous, but I’m a mom, wife, business woman, housecleaner, cook, part-time chauffeur and bookkeeper. How do you think my sex life is now?

2. When party sales finished at $150 with no bookings and you ask me how it went, I’m lying when I say “It was great!” You say “So how much free stuff did I get?” I say “Nothing. I’m sorry,” then cringe at the gas pump on the way. A party should be at least $300 for a sex toy consultant to be semi-pleased.

3. Fine, your boyfriend can stay at this “Girls Night In” since you’re insisting. But be aware. That squirming he’s doing in his chair during the demo is not what you think, hun. He’s not turned on. He’s actually REALLY uncomfortable. Send him on his way before the party, trust me.

4. When you come to the party, you should come prepared to shop. Above all, it’s a SHOPPING event. The hostess WANTS good sales to get free stuff. When you tell me that you will order online at home or call me with your order later, we know that there is a 99% chance that you won’t. Order AT the party, like everyone else.

5. If you live more than 2 hours from us, we are telling you that we “enjoy the ride” to be polite. We aren’t exactly going to come out and say “I’m afraid of wasting my time, so you better work for sales and make it worth our while!” So if a consultant is going to drive far, work extra hard for good attendance and outside orders. We REALLY appreciate that.

6. If you’re a hostess and put more emphasis on the food than our presentation and products, you’ll be running to the oven every 10 minutes to check on your wings while missing out on the laughs, games and intriguing sex info. Opt for non-oven finger foods and a big punch bowl where everyone can help themselves to drinks. By the way, wings will get the toys dirty. Nooooooo!

7. Just because it’s a vibrating toy and it’s turned on, doesn’t mean you should shove it down your pants. You’ve just ruined it for the rest of the people at the party who didn’t see it yet. And you’ve embarrassed your hostess big time.

8. When we do a bachelorette or birthday party for you and we only receive 3 small orders out of 20 people, it CAN cause us to leave a party feeling brokenhearted. We aren’t free entertainment. We’re moms and/or self-supporting women out to make some money for a good purpose. This is why you may call a consultant for such a party and she requests a deposit.

9. Bragging that you have this toy and that toy and this toy and that toy will not only tell the rest of the guests about your crazy toy-fueled sex life, but will tell us that you’d make a really good recruit. We WILL ask you if you’d like to join our team!

10. If you ask me if I’ll accept food stamps as payment don’t take offense to my long silence and confused stare. Eventually, it’ll come around to ask you if you’re interested in the business opportunity.

News: Competitor sues Pure Romance

Pure Romance, based in Loveland, is being sued in federal court in California by a competitor in the sex toy party business, accused of telling prospective clients their competitor is going out of business.

Brown Bag Party of Costa Mesa, Calif., filed suit last month in California federal court against Pure Romance, accusing it of libel, interference with business, false advertising and unfair competition in the suit that seeks at least $75,000 in damages.

Pure Romance and Brown Bag are national competitors for what Pure Romance calls "Naughty & Nice Gifts for Adults." Pure Romance did about $90 million in sales last year, up about 30 percent from two years before.

Both companies largely rely on individuals - usually women - hosting parties in their homes to show off sex toys, lingerie and other items they say educate customers on sexual issues. Party hosts make money from sales commissions. The products aren't sold in stores. Pure Romance notes it has tens of thousands of party-hosting representatives.

The suit alleges that at a March 14-15 Las Vegas convention for independent contractors, Pure Romance owners and representatives spread the word that Brown Bag was "going into bankruptcy," "going out of business" and was being bought by Pure Romance, none of which is true, Brown Bag's attorneys say.

Those statements were made, the suit alleges, in an attempt by Pure Romance to convince independent contractors to sell Pure Romance products and not those of their competitors. It alleges those making the comments "knew they were false" when they made them.

Calls and e-mails to Pure Romance weren't returned.

Pure Romance also is involved in a local lawsuit. It is suing women who used to host parties featuring Pure Romance products but switched to host parties featuring Brown Bag products. That suit initially was filed in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court but since has been transferred to federal court.

Seven women violated non-compete deal, suit says

A Loveland company is suing seven women across the Midwest in a Hamilton County court, accusing them of violating a non-compete clause in their employment contract when they started selling for a competing sex toy company.

Pure Romance Parties Inc. filed the suit last week, suing women in Nebraska, Iowa and Michigan.

The suit accuses each woman of working for a competing company - Brown Bag Party - after signing an agreement in which they would sell Pure Romance products. That agreement also prevented them from working for a competitor for a year after they left Pure Romance.

As consultants, the women set up and/or host parties where Pure Romance products were exhibited and sold, earning a commission on the sales. The women apparently changed companies because the new company paid higher sales commissions.

The issue is a serious and potentially costly one for Pure Romance.

The company is worried about competition for the sex-toy and relationship-enhancement business. It did about $90 million in sales last year, up about 30 percent from two years before. The company's Web site notes it has 80 employees and tens of thousands of consultants.

The suit singles out one woman - Cheri Patterson of Omaha, Neb. - for several of the allegations.

Patterson hung up when called Friday, but an Internet search listed Patterson as a consultant with Pure Romance with a different telephone number in Omaha.

A message left on that number noted Patterson now is a consultant for Brown Bag Party.

Patterson's MySpace page lists her as a consultant for Brown Bag Party because "They Pay 50%," an apparent reference to sales commissions.

Founded in 1993 by Patty Brisben, Pure Romance - which uses a theme "Not Your Typical Party, Not Your Typical Consultants!" - products aren't sold in stores but at parties or by consultants hired by the company.

Calls and e-mails sent Friday to Pure Romance weren't immediately returned.

The case is next in court April 30 for a Pure Romance request for a restraining order preventing the women from competing against Pure Romance or contacting its clients and customers on behalf of other companies.

The suit seeks at least $50,000 in damages.

London, Dec 30 : English musician Dave Stewart has managed to create waves again, and this time it is for his diamond-studded 1,000 pounds sex toy.

Stewart, 56, worked with a specialist adults-only firm to devise and market the Little Steel Tonight vibrator, which is made of solid steel with a "satin finish" and a band of 28 diamonds.

A bizarre attachment to the toy though is a guitar pick, with the lyrics from Stewart's latest solo song, 'Let's Do It Again', scrawled on it.

IF YOU happen to have been depressed by the past year, stand by for some good news - we're all going to be having more sexual intercourse in 2009.
The reason is that women's growing economic power around the world will give them more choices, and one of those choices, apparently, will be to have more sex.

The prediction is contained in The Futurist magazine which every year compiles the forecasts and predictions of assorted visionaries. It is now out with its Outlook for 2009 and Beyond.

Perhaps that has some bearing on another forecast: "Americans may turn away from antidepressants."

According to the anthropologist who made this call, the 100-million antidepressant prescriptions Americans take "kill the sex drive" but many may quit taking them, one surmises, so they can participate in the general randiness of women having more economic power.

Even stuff that lay people think is almost surely bad, the futurists view with equanimity.

For example: "Everything you say and do may be recorded."

Implanted nanodevices will allow all our conversations and activities to be recorded and recoverable.

That's because digital storage capacity will grow so large that it will be measured in "yottabytes" - 1 septillion bytes of data - allowing "the ability to record and store every second of one's life on a computer (and no doubt post it on Facebook)."

Woody Allen said that 90 per cent of life is just showing up. Now you won't even have to do that.

This development will come too late for some: "Retirees will increasingly return to the work force."

This forecast didn't say the retirees were doing it out of boredom or necessity, but implies it's the latter.

Those oldsters going back to work will be grateful for another development: "Better blood flow, more energy, thanks to high-tech underwear."

There's a cautionary forecast, though: "Saving snakes may save ourselves."

The venom of snakes may have undiscovered medicinal properties but many species are endangered.

And there's one hardy perennial that's been with us since at least the 1930s: "Flying cars may be on the way at last."

The Futurist cites an entrepreneur working on designs for a Skycar that fits in a suburban garage, takes off and lands like a helicopter and flies at 610 km/h.

As unfazed by what lies ahead of us as the futurists are, no compilation of predictions would be complete without something truly apocalyptic, and here we have it: "Increases in the Earth's temperature, no matter how slight, could trigger global mayhem and destruction."

The Amazon rain forest would become a desert, the glaciers would disappear and, "conflict over scarce resources would most likely cause human civilisation to collapse".

Happy 2009. Check your driveway and save your snakes.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – When Kansas State University sent researchers into nursing homes to find out how the topic of sex was being addressed, they initially found silence.

"Nobody was talking about it; it was a really hush-hush subject," said Gayle Doll, director of the university's Center on Aging. "I guess it's hard enough for people to think about their parents having sex, let alone their grandparents."

In response, the researchers have produced seminars and training aids to encourage nursing home caregivers to discuss and accommodate sexual desires.

The effort brings Kansas into a national discussion that advocates say will only grow as baby boomers age and take their beliefs about sexual freedom and civil rights into the nation's nursing homes.

One of the first Kansas seminars was held at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, where many staff first reacted with, "We're going to talk about WHAT?" said Lillian Claassen, vice president of health services at the villa.

Claassen said residents' sexuality had always been a difficult subject for nursing homes and the Kansas State training affirmed her earlier efforts to address the topic.

"It wasn't like we hadn't cared for these needs in the past, but it was liberating to some folks to have an open discussion with university researchers," Claassen said. "It empowered people to think about how they could help folks."

Doll said the training focuses on explaining what sexuality means for older adults, identifying barriers to fulfilling the sexual needs, finding strategies to help residents and how to discern appropriate from inappropriate sexual behaviors.

Solutions can be as simple as providing "do not disturb" signs or making sure staffers don't barge into residents' rooms without knocking. Claassen said her nursing home provides a discreet room for residents and has staff work through possible scenarios they may encounter.

Sometimes, it's as simple as arranging a bed for someone who needs physical therapy in a way that also allows that patient to be with his or her companion, she said.

"My greatest interest is to promote dignity in a situation that can be very challenging," Claassen said. "We all need touch, kindness and companionship. We try to enable that in this setting, which can be very public but where there is still a need for privacy."

Sexuality doesn't always mean intercourse. Many lonely or depressed residents are simply looking for ways to relieve loneliness and depression, Doll said.

For example, she told of one resident who had asked for pornography but dropped the request when the staff started spending more time with him.

"The staff can help with the loneliness and need for connection that residents often have," Doll said. "Some sexual expressions that might be seen as inappropriate will go away when they simply get the attention they deserve."

When the need does include sexual activity, the issue becomes more difficult if one of the residents is suffering from dementia, advocates say. That can manifest itself in a resident making passes at a staff member.

Claassen said her staff is trained to respond politely and to understand that the impaired resident may be mistaking the staff member for a spouse or reacting as he or she has in the past, which is often more vivid than the present for those suffering from dementia.

If a resident with dementia becomes involved with another resident, the issue becomes determining if the sexual activity is consensual, said Robin Dessel, a national expert on dementia who is the director of memory care at Hebrew Home in Riverdale, N.Y.

Dessel said people with dementia, even those who can no longer speak, have wants and desires and the ability to express them. It takes a trained and educated staff to recognize if a sexual overture or relationship involves abuse or is borne of real need, she said.

Dessel said she has seen a growing awareness that the aging do not forfeit their rights as they become infirm, and that includes the right to express sexuality. She expects that trend to increase as baby boomers, with more liberal attitudes toward sex than their parents, continue to age.

"No matter what we see, even if someone needs total care or is incontinent, they still feel," Dessel said. "If there's a bonding with someone else, I think it's a time of celebration at that point that there's something left, something good and pleasurable for that person."

To meet that challenge, clinicians and providers need some standardized parameters to use to assess patients' consent, Dessel said.

The Kansas State researchers say federal guidelines should be developed to help nursing homes deal with sexuality in a positive way.

"Nursing homes are the second most regulated industry in the country, behind nuclear power plants," Doll said. "But none of those regulations address sexuality. So, consequently, no one knows how to handle it."

Sexual Thoughts, Orgasms Are Among the "Unusual Triggers of Sneezing," Doctors Report

Dec. 19, 2008 -- Sure, you sneeze when you've got a cold. But some sneezes may happen just by thinking about sex or having an orgasm, British doctors report.

Mahmood Bhutta, a specialist in ear-nose-and-throat surgery at England's Wexham Park Hospital, writes of a colleague who once had a patient who "described uncontrollable fits of sneezing" immediately after having any sexual thought.

That patient, who was a middle-aged man, had no other symptoms. He said he'd had those sneezing fits immediately after thinking sexual thoughts throughout his adult life.

Bhutta and his colleague decided to do a little research, and they figured that since the condition might be embarrassing, it might not get reported -- except in Internet chat rooms.

So the researchers googled "sex, sneeze, OR sneezing" twice in 2007, and came up with reports by 17 people -- men and women -- who reported sneezing right after thinking sexual thoughts, and reports by three people of sneezing after orgasm.

Long before the Internet -- back in the 19th century -- there were reports of rare people who sneezed when sexually excited, but "there was no credible reason given for the phenomenon," Bhutta's team writes.

Bhutta's paper doesn't settle why some people sneeze when they think sexual thoughts or when they have an orgasm. But the researchers suggest that sexual thoughts or orgasm might trigger the body's subconscious nervous system, which could lead to sneezing in some people.

The report appears in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.

A former part-time pastor at a Haywood County church pleaded guilty on Monday to stealing a woman’s sex toy, a bottle of lubricant and a pair of her panties.

Superior Court Judge Marlene Hyatt sentenced Scott Gillis Murray, 48, of Murray Road, to two years probation on a four-month suspended prison term.
Murray resigned from his job at the New Covenant Church in Clyde in July after police charged him with stealing an “adult personal entertainment device.”
The owner of the device came home around 11 p.m. to find him in her house holding a plastic bag, Assistant District Attorney Jim Moore said during the hearing today. Murray broke his leg after jumping over her back porch while trying to escape, the prosecutor said.
He ditched the bag in woods near her house. He admitted the crimes to investigators the next day and they found her property after searching the area, Moore said.
The prosecutor said the victim did not want to come to the hearing.
“This has been, and still is, upsetting to her,” Moore said.
Murray said nothing other than answering the judge’s questions about his understanding of the plea deal.
The state dropped one charge and agreed to a guilty plea on the lesser charge breaking and entering. He had faced second-degree felony burglary, which could have meant an active prison sentence.
The judge found Murray had cooperated with investigators and accepted responsibility. She also found he had a good reputation in the community before the crime, had the support of his family and friends and that he had been through an alcohol treatment program.
She ordered that he continue his treatment and have no contact with the victim.
Murray's church work had included visiting people in hospitals and checking on members who hadn't been to church recently, New Covenant senior pastor Nick Honerkamp said after his arrest.
The church paid him a $500-a-month stipend to cover gas and other expenses, Honerkamp said.
Murray’s attorney, Bob Clark, told the court his client was sorry and was ready for his punishment.
“He accepts the fact that punishment has to come first before redemption,” he said.

Carnival Cancels CAHPA Cruise

WOONSOCKET, R.I. – There are a million ways to get rejected: apply to college, send a friend request to that cute co-worker, try to secure a mortgage. But the Certified Adult Home Party Association certainly never expected to get a rejection from a cruise line.

Earlier this year, CAHPA reserved space with Carnival Cruise Lines for its February board meeting. Planning days packed with sun, fun, and educational seminars, more than 20 cabins had already been booked by association members.

When Carnival stopped responding to CAHPA's calls, the group's leadership didn't know what to make of it—until the cruise line canceled the reservations and refunded their money.

In a letter sent to Bobbi Nolan, CAHPA's secretary, a cruise line representative wrote, "We are a family cruise line and all of our onboard activities are set in a family-friendly atmosphere... Based on information that was gathered from your booking, it is our understanding that your group is comprised of clients requesting ‘adult-themed' activities and functions. The premise of your group is to attend private functions revolving around their specific interests and affiliation... Carnival Cruise Lines does not tolerate public nudity, fighting, or general lewd, inappropriate, or reckless behavior, as set forth in Carnival's ticket contract."

The cancellation—and the accompanying letter—incensed CAHPA President Rina Valan. "This is out-and-out discrimination and it's slanderous," she says, disputing Carnival's insinuations of nudity and lewd conduct. "We're businesspeople. We help support hundreds of thousands of women in America."

The association had chosen Carnival based on members' past positive experiences with the line. Valan says the group had even awarded Carnival cruises as prizes, booking as many as 1,700 rooms in recent years, and that she personally has spent approximately $50,000 with the carrier.

According to Valan, Carnival knew from the beginning the nature of the group. "They had all the info up front," she says, explaining that the group was small enough that all business would take place in the conference rooms that CAHPA had been coordinating with Carnival to schedule. Nor was there to be any signage in public areas, she says, because all communication would occur internally. Furthermore, Carnival's concerns should have been assuaged by CAHPA's roster of successful meetings—past events have been held at Marriott and Sheraton venues.

So, if other passengers wouldn't even be aware of CAHPA's presence on the ship, and major hotel chains have hosted the group, what exactly was the problem? Though the rejection letter stated that group was not being singled out, Valan is baffled about Carnival's claim that CAHPA had requested "adult-themed services."

She says, "We represent 100,000 families, let alone customers. We all do a lot of business, and, especially in this economy to assume about a business group that they'll be lewd or there will be public nudity..."

In response, CAHPA directed a letter of complaint to Carnival's president, and a representative from the cruise line's group sales department phoned Valan this morning, more than a week after CAHPA sent its missive. "Someone finally called us," she says. "I couldn't believe what I was hearing. [The Carnival rep] was just a robot going on about how they have been burned by groups in the past. ‘We looked on the website and we just got concerned.'"

During the call, the Carnival rep asked specifically what CAHPA planned to do in its meetings and what items it would be bringing on board for the event. Valan explained that the group is similar to a chamber of commerce—an argument that garnered no leeway from the cruise company. "This is legislative, this is networking, these are CEOs of large corporations, and you want to know what we're going to be bringing or discussing?" Valan says she asked. The rep maintained that Carnival asks similar questions of all groups, whatever their nature, a claim Valan doesn't buy.

Finally, Valan ended the call, explaining that CAHPA had rebooked after Carnival had rescinded the reservations. "You've cancelled our group. You've put us in an uproar," she told them. "We booked with another cruise line."

It was Norwegian Cruise Line that "welcomed us with open arms."

So the cruise and CAHPA's board meeting will go ahead, but the group is considering further action against Carnival. Valan says that, after the "terse" phone call, her attorney will be contacting the cruise line. What kind of restitution are they seeking? "An apology would have been nice," she says. "They wouldn't acknowledge that at all. They have no clue.

"We're not out to get anybody—we're trying to help women. It's always been our mission to help women, whether to help her get freedom or enhance her personal relationships or finances, especially in these times," Valan says. "We don't need another roadblock like this."

Carnival did not respond to our request for comment.

Don't try this at home: Sex pipe dream ends in awkward op

FREAKED-OUT firemen had to use a pneumatic saw to cut off a piece of steel pipe stuck while being used as a sex toy - by a 73-YEAR-OLD man.

The crews were called in when staff at St Luke's Cornwall Hospital at Newburgh, near New York, couldn't remove the pipe by normal methods because of the extent of the swelling

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Mandoske said firefighters chose a "wizzer saw" - an automotive tool powered with air bottles and commonly to saw off mufflers - to get the job done.

"Just don’t cut it off," the Times Herald-Record reported the worried victim as saying.

The critical operation took more than 90 minutes as firemen sawed through the pipe bit by bit. The man was apparently unharmed.

TIPS: 10 things NOT to say on a first date

First dates are stressful, period. You don't want to lie or stretch the truth per se, but you also don't want to send your date running off to hail a cab before you've even ordered the cheese plate. Basically, the goals of a successful first date are to reveal that adorable, endearing part of yourself, learn more about the stranger sitting across from you, and to see if there is any connection between you two crazy kids. Obviously, it's important to be honest, but some of the more intimate parts of you are well, sorta personal, and no one's forcing you to spill all the beans. (Besides, everybody is intrigued by a little mystery and you want to save something for the second and third dates, right?) We don't really believe there are any hard and fast rules when it comes to dating, and despite what movies would have you think, there is no such thing as the "perfect date," so take these with a grain of salt. Still, here's hoping you find a couple of them helpful, and good luck out there.

1. "My ex is crazy."
There's a fine line between love and hate, but both are equally fueled by passion. If someone even mentions their ex on a first date, watch out, you could be entering into a three-way relationship. Brace yourself: drama ahead! Anyway, if you're not over your ex, keep it to yourself. Your date certainly doesn't want to hear about it.

2. "I would like to get married and have kids asap."
Slow. That. Roll. Whether you're a man or a woman, uttering those words automatically puts pressure on an already delicate, stressful meeting, not to mention the fact that it's a foolproof way to scare someone off and fast.

3. "Who are you voting for?"
There's a saying in the south about not bringing up politics or religion in polite company. Plenty of couples don't always share political (or religious) views, and learn to make things work. But when you're trying to make a good first impression, it's probably best to avoid overly emotional topics in order to avoid a sparring match. (Look at it this way, if you become a couple, you'll have plenty of opportunities to fight later!)

4. "Can you pay the check? I'm broke."
Hey, the economy is in the toilet. Of course you're broke. We're all broke. But common courtesy dictates that the person who did the date asking offer to pay the bill. Chances are, if your date has good manners, they'll offer to split it or pay the tip. Let's face it, gone are the days where the guy automatically must pay for dinner or he's a loser. But no matter what the circumstances are, flat out asking your date to pay the bill is a major turn-off.

5. "What's your favorite TV show?"
C'mon, we can do better than that. Asking about hobbies and other interests can lead to great conversation, but the last message you want to convey is that your favorite activity is watching the tube with a tub of ice cream. Save talking about "America's Next Top Model" for the work water cooler or something.

6. "Where did you go to school?"
Believe it or not, many people didn't go to college, and totally resent being put on the spot with this tired old question. And while plenty of grads are happy to wax on and on about their "glory years" or whatever, it's probably better to ask something like, "Have you always lived here?" "How did you choose your career?" or another more general question that might lead you to discussing educational background. Again, it may seem strange, but for all kinds of reasons, a lot of people have negative knee-jerk reactions to this seemingly innocuous question.

7. "Can I take your picture?"
Creepy much? But yeah, I have girlfriends who've been waylaid by this gem. For real. Maybe it's the thought of him showing his buddies your photo and bragging about bagging you, or even the image of him fawning over your pic tacked up on one of those cray-cray serial killer wall collages. Either way, ick.

8. "I'm poly-(fill in the blank)"
There are folks who are polyamorous (def: the desire, practice, or acceptance of having more than one loving, intimate relationship at a time with the full knowledge and consent of everyone involved); polygamist (def: the practice of marriage to more than one spouse simultaneously); and yes, some are even polyester salesmen (def: dudes who peddle chintzy wares). Right then. Unless you met that person on a "special" site devoted to that kind of stuff, chances are your date won't appreciate your um, open-minded ways.

9. "So I just got out of rehab."
So maybe you have some personal problems you've been working on. Perhaps you've been in therapy since you were 13 years old. Whatever the case may be, it's probably best not to introduce your new romantic interest to your BIG, SCARY ISSUES, at least not yet. Everybody has problems big and small, but the first date is more about showing off your personality, not painting yourself as a psychotic addict (even if you are, just a smidge). Note: If you are seriously in the midst of a personal crisis, and that includes excessive drug use and/or major psychological treatment, not to be all judgey, but you probably shouldn't be on a date right now.

10. "So ya wanna come back to my place?"
Not everyone is old-fashioned about first dates. The right time to sleep with someone is up to you, but numerous informal polls, um, around the office show that when a guy propositions a woman for sex on the first date, she tends to get skeeved, and when a girl does the same, many dudes are likely to file her in the one night stand category. Double standard? Sure. And yes, some couples do have sex on the first date and there is nothing wrong with that. But I think you know what I'm sayin'...

Sex Partners Get STD Alerts by E-mail

TUESDAY, Oct. 21 (HealthDay News) -- Letting someone you've slept with know that you have inadvertently exposed them to a sexually transmitted disease can now be done with the click of a computer mouse.

A new report says 30,000 people have used an Internet service that allows them to alert their sex partners that they may have been infected with syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV or other diseases.

"This has been an innovative and effective way for us to enable people to communicate with their sex partners," said Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, director of STD prevention and control services at the San Francisco Department of Health.

The inSPOT service, which was created in San Francisco in 2004, is now in place in several states, including Idaho, Louisiana, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington, among others. According to the report, the service "has the potential to be a national and international resource."

"We know inSPOT works," Klausner said. "I see patients, they come in and say they've been notified [about having an STD], and their contact is through inSPOT."

Typically, health departments in the United States only notify the sexual partners of people with STDs if they might be infected with syphilis, Klausner said. Officials don't try to track down the partners of people with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, or diseases such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, he said.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health and a non-profit group surveyed gay men in 2004 and found that most didn't notify casual sex partners when they were diagnosed with an STD. But the report said men "overwhelmingly said that if there were an easy, convenient and anonymous way to inform their partners of their potential disease exposure, they would use it."

And so the inSPOT service was born, first as a service for gay men and then for anyone. Users visit a Web site and click through a form that allows them to submit the e-mail address of a sex partner and specify what disease or diseases the person may have been exposed to.

The person potentially exposed to an STD will then get an e-mail with the subject line, "E-card from a concerned friend re: your health via inSPOT."

People who send the messages can choose to be anonymous or include their name. They also get to choose images to appear on the e-cards, including a photo of the words "I'm so sorry" on a piece of paper.

"We're living in a new world of Internet communication," Klausner said. "Most people are online every day. This Internet communication tool affords people a way to send a message anonymously."

According to the new report, published in the October issue of PLoS Medicine, 15 percent of the e-cards in 2006 and 2007 warned recipients of gonorrhea infection. The percentages for other diseases were 15 percent for syphilis, 9 percent for HIV and 12 percent for chlamydia. Almost half of the cards warned of other diseases, including "crabs" and hepatitis.

Since 2004, 30,000 people have sent nearly 50,000 e-cards, the report said.

It's possible for people to use the messages to harass or frighten other people. There's no way to confirm that those who receive messages are actually in danger of infection. Still, there's little indication that people have abused the system, at least in San Francisco, Klausner said.

"I've probably gotten four e-mails from people who have been upset because they think they shouldn't have gotten this card, someone misused it," Klausner said. "They couldn't believe something this serious could so easily have the potential for misuse."

It's not clear if the notification service actually helps reduce sexually transmitted disease.

"The real test of this or any approach, including the traditional ones, is their effect on transmission," said Dr. Richard Rothenberg, a professor at Georgia State University's Institute of Public Health, who studies partner notification.

However, it may be difficult, if not impossible, to study the impact on health because the service is confidential, Rothenberg said. "I think we, and the authors, must be content with the idea that this appears to be an acceptable method to fulfill the moral imperative of notification, and it has a chance to be a better approach than what we currently do," he said.

It really has been a while since I posted. Well, I have a new computer. A nice and FAST Dell. Emphasize FAST. I really needed it. Windows Vista is giving me just a little bit of problems. Nothing major except for the program that I use to build my websites. It's not compatible with Vista, but I'm able to somewhat use it. Unfortunately it keeps screwing up. *sigh*

Other than that, I'm working towards earning a trip to Hawaii by Dec 31st. It's going to be a close call! I need at least 2 more new reps (more would be better) and about $6000 in sales. My $1500 party on Saturday definitely helped! Gosh, I'd like to have two of those every weekend. :)

So, I'm going to get back onto the blog wagon. It's back in my bookmarks toolbar. Oh, did I mention I lost pretty much everything on my old computer. When I tried to turn it on to retrieve files it POPPED. ***POP!!!!!*** Just like that. I did have a back up on an external drive, which happens to now be broken too. I know it's fixable though.

I had a GOOD few chuckles reading through this "opportunity" that tells you nothing of the product (what you're selling). Yes, Rich Jerk...I'm laughing AT you and I know you don't care. I also know your don't exist. You aren't a real person, but merely a facade of what men (and few women) dream of as the "ultimate life". Poor souls who give into such scams and think it's really so easy and quick to make money. I must admit, the content is amusing the read. Though I really don't have time for entertainment right now.

When you don't see a product upfront, don't go for it. The Rich Jerk could be anything from buying little classified newspaper ads, to selling mailing lists, to who-knows-what. When you come across something like this simply type it's name into google, see what comes up. In the case of the Rich Jerk, you get the website first and a whole bunch of complaints after. Type rich jerk scam and you get worse.

Well, over my two years with PP, we started to loose girls to For Your Pleasure. I lost one of my own and I started to think, what the heck is this! I started to look into it and after awhile, "thought" it was better. So, in Aug 2007, I left PP and all my girls to go to FYP."
Sounds like PP is for you! You know the saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”? You obviously should have never switched!

"What could make me want to do this? The lady I signed up under stated great things would happen with FYP. That I would make more money, build teams faster, book more parties, etc. It all looked so real b/c she even put it all on paper for me to see. My first month with FYP, I did top recruiter. At that point, I only signed up 5 girls! That started to get me to think, this is so not PP. We sign up more then 5 a month!"
That’s what I love about FYP. It’s not saturated. It’s easier to reach top sales/recruits when there are less contenders. That means lots of perks. Many times in the hundred of dollars (in addition to sales bonuses) or laptops and such. FYP reps sign up more than 5 a month too. Last months newsletter showed someone signed 12. Another 9. Another 8. It varies from month to month. Don’t believe that FYP’s top recruiters for any given month sign only 5. It’s simply not true.

"So weeks started to pick up and I started to think even more. While I was doing parties, I was not getting ANYTHING like I was with PP. My sales went WAY down, parties took so much longer. FYP has 1200 products! I was with them for 10 months and STILL don't know all of them. When I would try to get women to book, they would look at my website and then say either it was not for them and or never call me back."
Why didn’t you just make a ‘party menu’ like so many other FYP reps make? That way you can pick and choose what you want to show and not even have to show the catalog! As far as the website, we CAN make our own. I know many reps (including myself) that only use the FYP site for the shopping cart. Otherwise you could’ve created your own or had any of our designer/consultants make one for you for super cheap!

What is your definition of “well-named”? Is it turning a clitoral sucker into a “tulip”? Or pussy pal (omg, she said it!) , an oral sex simulator, into a “gentle stroker”? (Btw, that thing is anything BUT gentle…meow) At FYP, you get what you see. You get a toy in protective casing. Many times in a plastic mold in a cardboard box with design, information and specifications. At Passion Parties, you get your toy removed from it’s case where I question the use of gloves by warehouse workers. Then the toy is put into a clear plastic bag. I don’t see a plastic bag as being too durable. Not only that…Passion Parties removes package extras like lube and toy cleanser samples that the manufacturer has provided. Some high end toys even come with a manufacturer’s warrantee, which Passion Parties removes too.

"Over my 10 months, I was a Reg Dir. Manager. I was making 50% at my parties, but I was not getting any, so that did not matter. I had over 40 girls and was getting checks from them, but they were not getting as many parties either. Our monthly newsletters show that only a handful of consultants did over a $1000 party. I think out of all of them, we had maybe 20 or so. The top number of consultants signed each month was 5-10."
This is very hard to compare as Passion Parties has tens of thousands of reps. In comparison, FYP does well for the amount of reps we have! I’m also pretty impressed that you built a team of 40 people in 10 months!! I did about the same, maybe more. Recruiting is easy with FYP!

I felt like the time I was gone, I had lost one of my close friends. She welcomed me back with open arms and I kid you not, 1 week with PP and I booked 7 parties!"
Like I said, you belong with Passion Parties and that’s okay. It seems as if you should have never left in the first place. Each company is not for everyone, know what I mean?

"Women were happy that I left FYP b/c they felt it was far from classy and b/c all the products were just too much. Now that I am back with PP, I am getting 1-2 parties booked A DAY! I have 4 girls that might sign up and I feel like I am ready to take back off and get my Executive Director title back! I am where my heart is telling me to be!"
That’s awesome! (see above) The same thing happened to me when I switched from Passion Parties to For Your Pleasure. Your customers may have felt your negative energy towards FYP. Maybe you even said things. You are their rep, of course they are happy! I know being from the New York metro area, my customers were like “THANK GOD” when I had more to show them after I switched.

Be aware your wording makes some of your statements below lies as opposed to facts.

Right. But there is a difference. Passion Parties only ships to each individual at $9 a pop. FYP offers guests the choice to ship to the hostess for $4.95 or ship to themselves for $7.95. All backorders and defects are paid for and taken care of by FYP as well.

Very few of the original packaging has a pic of a porn star putting it in places they are about. Actually, I barely understand this statement. Are they about to put it somewhere? Because there are no pictures where they actually are (penetration). Sure there are breasts and butts on some packaging…Hello!! Welcome to the Sex Toy industry! LOL I don’t think customers take their boxes and put them on display either, they simply go in the garbage. And like I said before, my customers appreciate the protective packaging with the extras included (samples and manufacturer’s warrantee) rather than a little plastic baggie.

Sure, PP’s visuals are a little more advanced, but PP’s site is more expensive! $24.95 per month? FYP is $14.95 per month. Ah, but with FYP you can design your own website. You can literally have and totally own your own personal website aside from FYP’s. With PP, this is forbidden, even a team site! And having your own website can make a huge difference in many reps. Have I mentioned you can also sell on eBay? A HUGE no-no with PP.

Ouch! A lie and a misconception! This one hurts because PP’s credit card system is so expensive!! 3.X%, right? With FYP you do pay $10 per month for unlimited transactions! Running $1000 (from sales, taxes and shipping fees) in credit cards will cost you $30 with PP. Have a really big month? $2000 will be at least $60 out of your pocket straight to PP! Ouch Ouch Ouch!
Merchant account fees are not much less. You lose either way: pay by PP or pay by merchant acct. $10 per month flat is an awesome deal. Here is the LIE in this statement though. “FYP does the same thing in holding the left over money till bonus checks come out”. Please Note: this is a LIE!! You CAN use your ‘left over’ funds towards your next party, supplies, products, etc. So, please don’t say FYP holds the money till bonus checks. This is not true. Also the $10 per month (whether you run credit cards or not) is what keeps a rep active. No sales quotas! Just $10 per month.

PP pays you up too 40% and they do that b/c they do not want to put their business in the hole. Also, 50% is nice if you were getting lots of parties. You do not get any where as many as you do with PP and if you do, your sales are no where as close to what PP were. (Now I will state every state is different, I am only stating off what I found my team to do and what my "sponsor at the time" said her team of 100 was doing) Also, to get to 50%, you have to recruit like crazy! (1 other girl does not get you to the top like they say it does)"
“Companies that are offering 50% on parties are not doing well.” Ouch, another lie. And how do you know they are not doing well? I still can’t see how at the beginning of this whole thing you say that you are “stating the facts” then go on to say something like THIS. You don’t necessarily have to recruit like crazy to get the 50%. A few good reps under you could bring you there. One girl will not give you 50% buying discount. Not sure where you got this info from.

They might have us beat in this part, but my checks were no bigger with FYP then they were with PP. PP were much larger at times b/c we were getting parties!"
Let’s consider the top positions in both companies.
Executive Director with Car and Home Bonus: 5% + 5% + 5% = 15 + $400 + $1000
Platinum Presidential Director: 10% + 5% + 4% + 3% + 2% + $1700

Can you see the difference?

With $36,000 in team sales (and with FYP team sales are infinite levels including your own!) I will make at least a $500 management bonus, which is more than the passion parties car bonus. With $40,000 in team sales I make $750 management bonus on top of my team commissions! Yeah!

Again, who says you can go to the top with 1 team member? That’s odd since the top level requires multiple Directors. And I think your words are misleading. FYP doesn’t say this. Show me on FYP’s site or in the manual or who at home office told you this. FYP does not say this. I can’t speak for other reps however.

"~FYP gives everyone leads: YA RIGHT! They don't have enough leads come in to give! I was with them for 10 months and got 1 lead and that lead was 200 miles away! My sponsor told me I would get them when I hit a level, I hit that level and passed it and never seen anything. At least with PP you know you are going to get leads when you hit the level. (Not saying you should depend on leads. They are nice when you get them, but word of month will bring in more parties then leads)"
“YA RIGHT?” Sounding hostile here, rather than “just stating the facts”. This really isn’t such an important factor. The point is that FYP gives out party leads according to zip code and locality. FYP doesn’t have the media coverage and advertising that Passion Parties pays for. FYP prefers to let the reps make more money. Personally, I enjoy making more money than counting on home office to advertise and hire PR Firms. I take some of that money, use it towards my own form of advertising and get multiple leads per day.

For someone who is new to the company, this can be hard. I had a girl on my team who still owes money for her kit b/c she was only $4 short of the $1000. So now she owes FYP $250!"
Why would she not place a small order to make her $1000? Did you advise her to do so? That's really unfortunate! FYP has this qualification in place to avoid duds, kitnappers and those joining just for the discount. This pushes you to strive from the beginning. After qualifying, there are no sales quotas.

PP NEVER asks for you to give them your host info nor do they expect you to do a $1000. NOW, doing a $1000 is AWESOME! BUT, not everyone comes into this business wanting to do it full time. PP gives every women/man the chance to do what they want with their business."
The $1000 in 60 days is the push. Should someone not be able to do this, they CAN get an extension. $1000 in 90 days shouldn’t be all that hard, right? After that there are no sales quotas. FYP is not the only company that has starting requirements such as this.

The kits come with a business manual and a product manual. The product manual is very informative and explains a lot about our product line. Having 1200 products allows reps to create a ‘party menu’ with what they want to show. MANY reps use the party menu system. And it works wonders!

For Your Pleasure has a huge transfer-in rate. And not just with Passion Parties, though PP takes the cake. So why not take advantage of that. Remember how frustrated I was at PP, I wish I had been exposed to FYP earlier! Whoever the one would be to expose me, could've recruited me!
So if one of these ladies that you speak of had a rep lead at a party, they wouldn't sign them, because they only sign PP reps? I highly doubt anyone twiddles thumbs waiting for a PP rep to join their team.
BTW, You are actually the first I've heard of that transfered out to Passion Parties, aside from another conservative woman.

You know for a FACT that FYP does not stand in Passion Parties level? Sorry, but that’s not a fact, but an opinion. To ME, Passion Parties doesn’t stand to FYP. I was with PP for 2 years before switching in October 2006. I can’t deny my drastically increased income.

If you look at the title of everything you wrote, it sounds like persuasion: “If you’re thinking of leaving PP for FYP – READ THIS!!” So you are telling everyone to listen their heart, yet you state lies, opinions as facts and misconceptions about your experience and knowledge of FYP.

I just created this rebuttal because your fellow passion consultants are using your statements as a tool for recruiting. Which I don’t believe is fair because it’s opinionated and personal. One big opinionated testimonial, which should not be the basis of someone’s decision to join a company.

Audiobooks - Find me someone with life please?!

So I downloaded some audiobooks to listen to on my iPod while I clean. You know...the big names like Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy.. I found topics like Time Management, Get Things Done, Organization. These are things I need to achieve my 30 day goal of creating an organization habit. This is a step towards my breakthrough goal of "To comfortable work my FYP business in 3 consecutive hours per day excluding phone calls".

So I'm listening and listening and listening, cleaning, starting to feel anxious, uncomfortable, I start eye-rolling. Jim Rohn, you have GREAT stuff on paper...great reads. But the audio is HORRIFIC! I feel like I"m listening to a speech on factory work from the 50's! That voice, the vocabulary. I swear, when I get network marketing-famous, I'm going to create CDs that are like "Allllright Then! Are you ready to ROCK?!?! Are you ready to get organized people?!? YAY! Let's do it." You know, Belinda Elsworth is like this. She's FULL of energy and spunk. Someone please give me some wealth, personal growth and the like speakers who are full of life and energy... any suggestions?

From the moment that the steam-powered “Manipulator” appeared in Britain in 1870, the story of vibrators is every bit as thrilling as the devices themselves, reflecting science, medicine, design, technology and social history. I am this week giving a lecture at the Cheltenham Science Festival on the science and history of vibrators, and through my research I have come to realise that, above all, the vibrator story reflects men's changing attitudes towards women.

It starts hysterically with “womb furie”. Hippocrates thought the womb wasn't a fixed item but wandered about the body looking for trouble. At the moment of orgasm, it gripped the windpipe causing the breathless panting so familiar to watchers of When Harry Met Sally. From earliest times there was a recognised women's complaint characterised by nervousness, fluid retention, insomnia and lack of appetite. Hippocrates thought that a blockage in the womb was the cause of it, hence it was called hysteria from the Greek for womb (hysteros). Galen, a Greek physician, claimed it was caused by sexual deprivation, particularly in passionate women, and was noted in nuns, virgins, widows and occasionally in married women whose husbands were not up to the job.

Massage to “paroxysm” was the ticket. “Arising from the touch of the genital organs required by the treatment, there follows twitchings accompanied at the same time by pain and pleasure...from that time she is free of all the evil she felt,” proclaimed Galen.

The trouble was that doctors regarded this treatment as numbingly tedious. Bringing a woman to paroxysm by hand could, understandably, take for ever. It was a job that required stamina and not a little patience. And, significantly, because it took so long, it wasn't lucrative enough for doctors who needed to see many patients to achieve a reasonable income.

And masturbation (by either sex) was regarded as wrong. It was not only a moral affront but something that was thought of as constitutionally dangerous, enfeebling mind and body. “Women [with hysteria] should not resort to rubbing,” said Avicenna, the Muslim scholar and founder of early modern medicine. It was, he advised, “a man's job, suitable only for husbands and doctors”.

A vibrating sphere did the business

By the late 19th century spas had introduced water treatments to do the job more efficiently. A scary French pelvic douche from about 1860 involved what looks like a high-pressure fire hose, trained on the clitoris. It claimed to induce paroxysm in less than four minutes. If marriage wasn't delivering the goods, rickety trains, rocking chairs or horse riding were advised for nervous women as gynaecological Dyno-Rodding techniques. But if the 2.20 from Tooting failed to oblige, there was no option but recourse to a medical man. Given that many in the medical profession thought that as much as 75 per cent of the female population were “hysterical” and that it was a chronic disease which could be relieved but not cured, there was a pressing need for cheaper, less cumbersome devices. By the mid-1870s, steam power had been explored. “The Manipulator” was a table with a cut-out area for the woman's pelvis. A vibrating sphere driven by a steam engine then did the business. But like the hydrotherapies, it was not suitable for the doctor's treatment room. It was a niche market poised for exploitation.

The first British vibrator was manufactured by Weiss in the early 1880s and it had several interchangeable “vibratodes”. It was battery-driven, but as electrification swept the world, devices rapidly appeared that were powered by street current. They delivered vibrations at the rate of 1,000-7,000 pulses a minute. There was every sort of variation: portable, floor-standing and, oh joy, the wondrous Carpenter vibrator which hung from the ceiling, looking like a device familiar to those who visit Kwik Fit to have their tyres changed.

These devices were operated by doctors, which medicalised the process and made it entirely proper. But more importantly, the medical paradigm for millennia had been that women's sexual pleasure involves penetration. A bit of rubbing by a doctor was perfectly acceptable because it didn't involve putting anything in the vagina. In fact, there was far fiercer controversy when the speculum (a metal device that is put into the vagina to allow a clear view of the neck of the womb) was introduced. The other point that is often raised is why, if paroxysm was the sovereign cure for hysteria, women were not taught how to masturbate and cure themselves.

In the early 20th century, everything in the garden was rosy until electrification made vibrators available in the home. They were, incidentally, electrified ten years before either the washing machine or Hoover. The first home machines were awesomely large, with a big box attached to the mains. One imagines that they were also awesomely noisy. But then they were miniaturised (relatively speaking). Hand-cranked versions became available, which presumably must have been distressingly prone to running out of power long before satisfaction had been achieved.

With names like Dr Macaura's Blood Circulator or the fabulously titled Veedee Vibrator, these were common devices. The Science Museum has many. “People never expect that the Science Museum has over 40 examples of vibrators,” says Katie Maggs, its assistant curator of medicine. Indeed. The product leaflets of these machines claimed they cured not just hysteria but also deafness, polio and impotence. No doubt dropped arches, halitosis and dandruff were in there somewhere, too. These machines were advertised everywhere. Good Housekeeping ran a “tried and tested” on vibrators in 1909, claiming they brought a glow to the face.

From medicine to high street accessory

Once this “treatment” had escaped from the medical arena and was available for home use, doctors stopped using it. Moreover, although vibrators were still widely advertised before the First World War, the advent of silent films, some of which portrayed them being used sexually, discredited them. Vibrators then disappeared from view completely for the best part of 50 years, although they continued to be offered, labelled as “neck massagers” in catalogues.

By the 1980s, shops such as Ann Summers were offering devices in lurid flesh tones. They were largely designed for penetration and bought by men in back streets. How things have changed. Now the devices are smaller, all colours, largely designed for clitoral use and bought by women on the high street.

But look at the latest Ann Summers device, the iGasm. Its various ‘tickler' attachments make it look startlingly similar to something illustrated in the Army & Navy catalogue of 1905. There is nothing new in the world.

MOSCOW — Glistening skyscrapers and fancy office buildings aren’t the only things rising across Moscow these days.

Amid the oil-fueled boom that shows no signs of waning, the splurge in consumer spending has spread beyond iPhones and trips to Paris, to whips and vibrators.

“It was only three or four years ago that people started to use sex toys and speak about sex toys,” said Roman Glukharyov, imports manager for erotica chain Mon Amour.

Surrounded by neon pink dildos, lifelike blow-up dolls, and a massive structure called the “Pleasure Machine,” which looked more like a torture device gone wrong, Glukharyov was one of hundreds of people who this weekend attended Moscow’s main sex-toy fair, “X-Show: An Exhibit for Adults.”

Nestled in the small exhibition hall above the Perekryostok supermarket on Tishinskaya Ploshchad in northern Moscow, the 7th annual X-Show was a far cry from major sex fairs like Berlin’s Venus, which last year notched up nearly 30,000 visitors.

About 200 people bustled around the hall on Friday, the middle day of the three-day fair, hoping to seal distribution deals and sell to random customers as a rising middle class proves many Russians have money to spare — for all sorts of leisure items.

“We bring in around $10,000 to $15,000 a month,” said Nadya Zhdankina, 29, who, along with her boyfriend Andrei Krupenya, 28, runs a sex toy web site called Paradis-Amour.ru.

“Demand is growing, you can tell,” Zhdankina said. “We have a lot of regular clients now.”

“The ones who order the really crazy stuff are the guys in oil cities like Surgut and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk,” she said. “They’ll easily pay 15,000 rubles to 20,000 rubles per order. They have nothing to do out there and plenty of cash.”

Svetlana, 41, sat nearby, anxiously watching a catwalk soon to be filled with leggy female models showing off the latest in white lace G-strings and leather corsets.

She came to the exhibit because she was hoping to open up her own sex shop and wanted to learn the trade. “It’s a normal business just like anything else,” she said.

The S&M toys on display may not have been exactly the kind of small and medium-sized businesses President Dmitry Medvedev had in mind when he said last week that the sector’s share of GDP should grow from 20 percent to at least 50 percent.

Most of the sex toys on exhibit were made in China and distributed by wholesalers based in the United States or Europe. But a purely Russian take on the sex toy also exists.

A firm named Andrei showcased an array of products, including a series of blow-up dolls with names like Nastya, a brunette, Dasha, a redhead and Natasha, a pure blonde.

“It’s my pleasure to make you happy,” read the boxes into which Nastya, Dasha and Natasha were folded. “Two-hole doll,” the boxes proudly proclaimed.

“Today, the erotic trade market in Russia is one of the most dynamically developing ones,” reads a pamphlet distributed by the firm. “First, and most important, this is because our citizens are getting richer.”

The second reason, the pamphlet says, is the end of being raised to believe “that sex is dirty and disgusting, something to be done in total darkness and in the missionary position, only to continue the human race.”

The growth in the sex toy trade in Russia resulted in part from a liberalization of ideas about sex, particularly among women, said Claudine Seroussi, the Europe representative for B Swish, a Los Angeles-based erotica firm.

“There are lots of young Russians who want to emulate the West. They watch shows like Sex and the City,” she said. That show made the Rabbit, a two-pronged dildo, a household word in the United States.

“And now they have more disposable income. It’s a sign of things becoming much more liberal,” Seroussi said.

Indeed, the days when someone could claim “there is no sex in the Soviet Union” are long gone.

Alyona Sinitsina, 28, a professional phone-sex operator sat at her booth with a friend, both wrapped in fishnet stockings and seductively eating ice cream cones.

“One out of every three guys is into phone sex,” Sinitsina said. “Sure, men can watch a video and see a woman with another man, but with us he can imagine himself. We call him by his name.”

After six seasons of late-night sex toy instruction, septuagenarian Talk Sex guru Sue Johanson takes her final bow Sunday with a countdown of the year’s top-10 sex toys.

“I'm going to miss playing with sex toys,” Johanson told The Associated Press about ending her run with Oxygen network’s late-night, call-in talk show.

"I'm going to miss it terribly," said Johanson, a 77-year-old sex educator.

"It's been part of my life and I just love it. I'm going to miss writing scripts. I'm going to miss having to read books.”

Talk Sex derived from a Canadian radio show that began in 1984 and offered practical advice on sex and sexually transmitted diseases.

But the twist with the Toronto-based nurse Johanson offering down and dirty sex advice, had always been her grandmotherly look.

Now in her late seventies, Johanson said she thought it was time to hang up the late-night, on-air sex toys for good, especially since 1 a.m., when the shows ended, was not her finest hour.

"I have been on television for 32 years," she said. "I think it's time. I figured if we haven't got it by now, we're not going to get it. We've got to make room for somebody else."

Oxygen's most-popular late-night show, Talk Sex’s ratings among young viewers broke records this season, the network said.

Oxygen has been good to Johanson, she said, adding that nobody pushed her to leave the show.

Throughout the show’s six seasons the network censored her just once, Johanson said, and that was for using a particular slang for penis.

But Johanson’s not retiring altogether. She’ll continue to give sex-related lectures, she said. "I'm a ham," she said. "I love a large audience."

Judges toss Pottsville business’ lawsuits

Schuylkill County judges dismissed on Tuesday lawsuits a Pottsville adult party business filed against two of its out-of-state distributors.

In separate but similarly worded opinions, Judges John E. Domalakes and Charles M. Miller rejected lawsuits filed by Spice It Up Parties Inc. against Stacey Carter, Illinois, and Jennifer Hasseler, Minnesota.

Spice It Up Parties did not draft its agreement with distributors such as Carter and Hasseler with sufficient specificity for it to be enforced as a contract against them, Domalakes and Miller each wrote.

Each judge rejected Spice It Up Parties’ claims for breach of contract, tortious interference with business relations and breach of duty of loyalty.

“Mutual consideration is (necessary) for a contract to exist,” and the agreement is not a contract because there is no evidence that either Carter or Hasseler received anything under the agreement, according to each opinion.

The corporation filed the lawsuits on Aug. 14, alleging the women violated their agreement by agreeing to become distributors for one of its competitors, For Your Pleasure Inc. It demanded as much as $50,000 in damages from each woman.

However, each judge ruled the agreement is not a contract because of the lack of consideration to the women. Since the agreement is not a contract between the corporation and the women, no lawsuits can be based on it, the judges ruled.

Furthermore, since the corporation did not allege the existence of any trade secrets or confidential relationship, neither woman can be held liable for the breach of a duty of loyalty, according to the opinions.

WASHINGTON --
A new brain-scan study may help explain what's going on in the minds of financial titans when they take risky monetary gambles - sex. When young men were shown erotic pictures, they were more likely to make a larger financial gamble than if they were shown a picture of something scary, such a snake, or something neutral, such as a stapler, university researchers reported.

The arousing pictures lit up the same part of the brain that lights up when financial risks are taken.

"You have a need in an evolutionary sense for both money and women. They trigger the same brain area," said Camelia Kuhnen, a Northwestern University finance professor who conducted the study with a Stanford University psychologist.

Their research appears in the current edition of the peer-reviewed journal NeuroReport.

The study only involved 15 heterosexual young men at Stanford University. It focused on the sex and money hub, the V-shaped nucleus accumbens, which sits near the base of the brain and plays a central role in what you experience as pleasure.

When that hub was activated by the erotic images, the men were far more likely to bet high on a random chance game that would earn them either a dollar or a dime. Each man made more than 50 gambles under brain scans.

Stanford psychologist Brian Knutson, a lead author of the study, says it's all about the power of emotion and arousal and our financial decisions. The trigger doesn't have to be sex - it could be chocolate or a winning lottery ticket.

"It didn't matter if the sexy woman didn't tell you anything about the odds of winning a roulette game," Knutson said. "What really matters is that the sexy woman is having an emotional impact. That bleeds over into your financial decisions."

Kuhnen said the same link could hold true for women, but they didn't test it because it is more difficult to find an erotic image that would appeal to many different heterosexual women compared to heterosexual men.

The link between sex and greed goes back hundreds of thousands of years, to men's evolutionary role as provider or resource gatherer to attract women, said Kevin McCabe, professor of economics, law and neuroscience at George Mason University, who wasn't part of the study.

"Risk-taking is a natural way of increasing your relative success, but, of course, there's a downside to it, what we're seeing right now in the economy," McCabe said.

The results of the study jibe with the real life on the trading floor, said Phil Flynn, a former Chicago commodities floor trader and current analyst at Alaron Trading Corp.

"I'm not shocked that it may be part of the deal," Flynn said Friday. "When you talk about all the euphemisms for trading (on the floor), they can be used for sex as well."

("Massaging the market" and "hardcore" were about the cleanest that he and his colleagues could come up with.)

The study conforms with recent research that indicates men shown a pornographic movie were more likely to make riskier sexual decisions. Another suggests straight men think less about their financial future after being shown pictures of pretty women.

One still-to-be-published study at Harvard University found a link between higher testosterone levels and financial risk-taking.

But the study conducted at Stanford, funded by the National Institutes of Health, went deeper, using functional magnetic resonance imaging machines. It's part of a new but growing field called neuroeconomics that attempts to take the hard-wired science of brain biology and mix it with the softer sciences of psychology and economics to figure out why we make the financial decisions we do.

An earlier study by the same team found that the brain's reward area lit up at about the same time as risky decision-making.

The erotic pictures experiment was designed to find which was the cause and which was the effect. The answer: Lighting up the reward area, in this case with soft-core pictures, caused the risk-taking, Kuhnen said.

"The more activation there you have, the more prone you are to taking more risk," Kuhnen said. "It could be a feedback loop."

The flip side was that the photos of snakes and spiders activated the portion of the brain often associated with pain, fear and anger. And those people were more likely to bet low.

This all makes sense to Harvard economist Terry Burnham, author of the book "Mean Genes." Burnham said it could be all summed up in a famous line from the movie "Scarface."

"In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women."

It's been announced that the nation credit score average is 692. A credit score falls between 300 - 850. Usually anything 700 or above is considered "good".

Spring Break Banner Ad Pulled by County after Complaints by Residents

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 1, 2008 -- Spring Break beach goers were likely humming the Rolling Stones' "Can't Get No Satisfaction" after an airplane banner ad was pulled from the skies by offended homeowners.

The island residents took offense to the banner ad for Vibrator.com, which sells adult novelties, sex education DVDs, books and other similar items, and complained to the county, which runs the Port Isabel-Cameron County Airport. The ad, which had flown one of its scheduled three days over the Easter weekend, was brought down and the company owner was told that they would not be allowed to fly any types of aerial banners until the pilot agreed he would not fly the Vibrator.com ad banner. The pilot under duress was then required by airport officials to sign an agreement sighting the rules and regulations of the airport.

The ad, a 25-foot high by 68-foot long pink banner, features the company's logo of a silhouetted woman and the words "Got Toys? Vibrator.com". There were no representations of toys, but island homeowners put in many complaint calls and the banner was ultimately grounded.

Vibrator.com's spokesperson Keith Levenson says in many ways, the ad conforms to a more traditional message about sex.

"With today's abstinence message being promoted, this is one method for still fulfilling one's sexual appetite," he said.

Aerial advertising is often used to get a message out quickly and effectively to large numbers of people at sporting events, beaches and other special functions. Spring and summer breaks are popular times for banner advertising.

Although there are no strict moral standards for banner advertising, there are some regulations about where the ads can fly. They can't be flown within 15 miles of the White House, or over New York City, for instance, or any sporting event with more than 30,000 people in attendance. But the moral issue is less well defined.

Levenson is angry the ad got pulled and is sorry that thousands of South Padre Island beachgoers missed out on discovering that a fun day at the beach is well complemented by a fun night in bed.

Good sexual intercourse lasts minutes, not hours, therapists say

Satisfactory sexual intercourse for couples lasts from 3 to 13 minutes, contrary to popular fantasy about the need for hours of sexual activity, according to a survey of U.S. and Canadian sex therapists.

Penn State Erie researchers Eric Corty and Jenay Guardiani conducted a survey of 50 full members of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research, which include psychologists, physicians, social workers, marriage/family therapists and nurses who have collectively seen thousands of patients over several decades.

Thirty-four, or 68 percent, of the group responded and rated a range of time amounts for sexual intercourse, from penetration of the vagina by the penis until ejaculation, that they considered adequate, desirable, too short and too long.

The average therapists’ responses defined the ranges of intercourse activity times: "adequate," from 3-7 minutes; "desirable," from 7-13 minutes; "too short" from 1-2 minutes; and "too long" from 10-30 minutes.

"A man’s or woman’s interpretation of his or her sexual functioning as well as the partner’s relies on personal beliefs developed in part from society’s messages, formal and informal," the researchers said. “"Unfortunately, today’s popular culture has reinforced stereotypes about sexual activity. Many men and women seem to believe the fantasy model of large penises, rock-hard erections and all-night-long intercourse. "

Past research has found that a large percentage of men and women, who responded, wanted sex to last 30 minutes or longer.

"This seems a situation ripe for disappointment and dissatisfaction," said lead author Eric Corty, associate professor of psychology. "With this survey, we hope to dispel such fantasies and encourage men and women with realistic data about acceptable sexual intercourse, thus preventing sexual disappointments and dysfunctions."

Corty and Guardiani, then-undergraduate student and now a University graduate, are publishing their findings in the May issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, but the article is currently available online.

The survey’s research also has implications for treatment of people with existing sexual problems.

"If a patient is concerned about how long intercourse should last, these data can help shift the patient away from a concern about physical disorders and to be initially treated with counseling, instead of medicine," Corty noted.

A NEW boutique hotel at a seaside resort in northwest England will offer guests a sex toy minibar when it opens later this year, its owner said.

The Vincent Hotel, in Southport, near Liverpool, will have "intimate seduction kits" in each of its 60 rooms from May, containing lubricating gel, massage oil, a vibrating ring and two condoms.

The kit will be in a sealed box alongside more traditional minibar items like nuts, chocolate and alcohol.

Guests can request an extra special kit containing a whip, mask and bondage tape.

"As well as giving guests a design conscious venue to stay, we wanted to give them a decadent, inspiring and seductive environment to enjoy," hotel owner Paul Adams said today.

"We want to provide our residents with a distinct and highly individual experience in their own private, opulent space."

Southport is best-known for its Victorian-era promenade, the oldest surviving iron pier in Britain and the Royal Birkdale golf club, where the Open Championship will be held in July.

Weight Loss - 2 weeks and counting!!!

So I started a diet/exercise regime 2 weeks ago. I haven't gone this long since a few months after my 3 year old was born. At that time I did the "eat little and small portions" diet, which in the end wasn't good because I wasn't eating enough calories and ended up gaining it back. I had also tried, last May, the MasterCleanse aka "The lemonade diet". 15 days of a diet that consisted of a Salt Water Flush, a homemade lemonade recipe and a laxative tea. Sounds fun, right? When I look back, it was great. The first few days were tough. No coffee and of course, no food!
I had lost 14 lbs and best of all, got rid of many issues I was having like my vertigo (dizziness). I was supposed to end it with a new lifestyle of wholesome foods, but I cheated left and right and gained the weight back, then some.

SOOOOO...here I am 14 days into a low-carb diet. So far so good! I'm really excited!! I have a bunch of 'milestones' this year to look forward to. My big 3-0 in June, For Your Pleasure convention in July (I WILL be wearing a sexy dress on awards night!), The FYP trip I earned to Italy in October and then New Years!! I have 55 lbs to lose. I'm down 6...woohoo! LOL I also signed up for Curves, which I've done before and absolutely LOVE because it's so quick. After 2 workouts so far...I can feel more muscle and my body is becoming stronger. I can't wait to go back tomorrow!! I'll be updating my progress... wish me luck!

The couple visited Hollywood's notorious Pleasure Chest adult store where they purchased massage oil, personal lubricant, a Cyberskin vibrator, a leather braided cane and a padded black collar and restraint.

A source is quoted by Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying: "They were walking round the store holding hands and David was carrying a small shopping basket.

"Victoria was very vocal, cracking jokes constantly. They seemed to know exactly what they wanted and after asking an assistant where various items were kept, they grabbed what they came for."

The bedroom isn't the only place the couple are experimenting.

David, 32, has asked his close friend, renowned chef Gordon Ramsay, for tips on how to impress his wife in the kitchen.

The Kitchen Nightmares star said: "David absolutely loves his food and Victoria is a real foodie too.

Study finds 1 in 4 US teens has a STD

CHICAGO - At least one in four teenage American girls has a sexually transmitted disease, suggests a first-of-its-kind federal study that startled some adolescent-health experts.

Some doctors said the numbers might be a reflection of both abstinence-only sex education and teens' own sense of invulnerabilty. Because some sexually transmitted infections can cause infertility and cancer, U.S. health officials called for better screening, vaccination and prevention.

Only about half of the girls in the study acknowledged having sex. Some teens define sex as only intercourse, yet other types of intimate behavior including oral sex can spread some diseases.

Among those who admitted having sex, the rate was even more disturbing — 40 percent had an STD.

"This is pretty shocking," said Dr. Elizabeth Alderman, an adolescent medicine specialist at Montefiore Medical Center's Children's Hospital in New York.

"To talk about abstinence is not a bad thing," but teen girls — and boys too — need to be informed about how to protect themselves if they do have sex, Alderman said.

The overall STD rate among the 838 girls in the study was 26 percent, which translates to more than 3 million girls nationwide, researchers with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found. They released the results Tuesday at an STD prevention conference in Chicago.

"Those numbers are certainly alarming," said sex education expert Nora Gelperin, who works with a teen-written Web site called sexetc.org. She said they reflect "the sad state of sex education in our country."

"Sexuality is still a very taboo subject in our society," she said. "Teens tell us that they can't make decisions in the dark and that adults aren't properly preparing them to make responsible decisions."

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said the study shows that "the national policy of promoting abstinence-only programs is a $1.5 billion failure, and teenage girls are paying the real price."

Similar claims were made last year when the government announced the teen birth rate rose between 2005 and 2006, the first increase in 15 years.

The new study by CDC researcher Dr. Sara Forhan relied on slightly older data. It is an analysis of nationally representative records on girls ages 14 to 19 who participated in a 2003-04 government health survey.

The teens were tested for four infections: human papillomavirus, or HPV, which can cause cervical cancer and affected 18 percent of girls studied; chlamydia, which affected 4 percent; trichomoniasis, 2.5 percent; and genital herpes, 2 percent.

Dr. John Douglas, director of the CDC's division of STD prevention, said the results are the first to examine the combined national prevalence of common sexually transmitted diseases among adolescent girls. He said the data, now a few years old, likely reflect current prevalence rates.

Disease rates were significantly higher among black girls — nearly half had at least one STD, versus 20 percent among both whites and Mexican-Americans.

HPV, the cancer-causing virus, can also cause genital warts but often has no symptoms. A vaccine targeting several HPV strains recently became available, but Douglas said it probably hasn't yet had much impact on HPV prevalence rates in teen girls.

The CDC recommends the three-dose HPV vaccine for girls ages 11-12 and catch-up shots for ages 13-26.

Chlamydia, which often has no symptoms but can lead to infertility, can be treated with antibiotics. The CDC recommends annual chlamydia screening for all sexually active women under age 25. Trichomoniasis, also treatable with antibiotics, can cause abnormal discharge and painful urination. Genital herpes can cause blisters but often has no symptoms. It's not curable but medicine can help.

The CDC's Dr. Kevin Fenton said given the dangers of some STDs, "screening, vaccination and other prevention strategies for sexually active women are among our highest public health priorities."

Douglas said screening tests are underused in part because many teens don't think they're at risk, but also, some doctors mistakenly think: "Sexually transmitted diseases don't happen to the kinds of patients I see."

Teens need to hear the dual message that STDs can be prevented by abstinence and condoms, said Dr. Ellen Kruger, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.

"You've got to hammer at them," with appropriate information at each stage of teen development to make sure it sinks in, she said.

She said there are a lot of myths out there, too — many sexually active teens think the withdrawal method will protect them, or that douching with Coca-Cola will kill STD germs.

Dr. Margaret Blythe, an adolescent medicine specialist at Indiana University School of Medicine, said some doctors hesitate to discuss STDs with teen patients or offer screening because of confidentiality concerns, knowing parents would have to be told of the results.

Blythe, who heads an American Academy of Pediatrics committee on adolescence, noted that the academy supports confidential teen screening.

This author from Huffington Post is not buying any of it. At the end of her article she says, "Ask practically anybody who has had amazing sex with another, and they will rarely tell you that their sex toy trumps lovemaking. I'm just not buying any of it." I am going to have to disagree with her. "Rarely" is not even close. Among the humorous highlights of "Passion & Power: The Technology of Orgasm," a documentary about the history of the vibrator, is Betty Dodson - the "masturbation movement godmother" - proclaiming, "Independent orgasms will lead to independent thoughts. Once a woman has given herself her own best orgasm, she's on a roll."

Although such assessments may seem overblown to the current generation of sex-positive women, this doc is a reminder that female sexual satisfaction is a fairly recent concept and one that remains taboo in the more conservative and religious areas of the country.

The movie starts with the tragicomic legal saga of Joanne Webb, a churchgoing Texas housewife who, in 2004, was busted for selling vibrators to two undercover cops. In Texas, up until this year, it has been a felony to sell sexual devices. Webb, a sales associate for Passion Parties, was just trying to make a few extra bucks for her family. Instead, she was summoned to jail. Within a year, her husband had a nervous breakdown and they were forced to declare bankruptcy. All because of some vibrators.

Filmmakers Emiko Omori and Wendy Slick's point is that even a generation after the sexual revolution the female orgasm is seen as a mystery, a threat and, in the most extreme cases, something to subjugate.

The bulk of their film is devoted to the groundbreaking research of Rachel P. Maines, whose 1999 book "The Technology of Orgasm: Hysteria, the Vibrator and Women's Sexual Satisfaction" charts how vibrators were used by 19th century doctors to massage women to orgasm as a treatment for hysteria, that hodgepodge of illnesses that included "reading French novels while tightly corseted."

At first the therapeutic technique was manual, then electronic, and eventually it left the doctor's office altogether when companies like Sears, Roebuck Co. and General Electric Co. began mass-producing a variety of home massagers that retailed for $5 to $15. But once they showed up in 1920s porn, the instruments went underground until they were rediscovered by feminists like Dodson, who held women's sexuality workshops in the 1970s, promoting the power of vibrators.

"Passion & Power" proceeds in the usual documentary fashion with a parade of talking heads interspersed with archival photos. Maines, who is shot in a musty Victorian parlor surrounded by a variety of antique vibrators, has a hard time reining in her academic jargon - she describes the vibrator of the 1880s as a "deskilling, capital labor substitution innovation" - but her findings are extraordinary.

However, it is Dodson, the New York sexologist, who is the true star of the movie. She describes with great poignancy and bravado how she was "dumber than s-" about her own sexuality until she began talking with women and men about female pleasure. Then she became a sex activist, holding workshops and writing books. "Sometimes on a Sunday afternoon I'd masturbate for three, four hours," Dodson says. The vibrator would get so hot, "I learned to hold it with a potholder."

Omori and Slick work hard to keep the laughs coming in their film, although there are too many images of volcanoes erupting, flowers blooming in slow motion and vulva-like jellyfish fluttering through the water to get across that, yes, women do reach orgasm - especially with vibrators.

"Passion & Power" may lay it on too thick with its You Go, Girl! message, but in the end it does bring to life a remarkably amusing and strange secret history.
